What’s New at ICPN
October is a timely opportunity for Faith Community Nurses to help individuals become more confident in understanding and using health information. This toolkit explores the importance of health literacy and the challenges many people face when navigating medical language, medications, diagnoses, appointments, and healthcare decisions. It offers practical ways FCNs can create safe spaces for questions, clarify information, connect individuals with trusted resources, and encourage people to take an active role in their health. Through clear communication, compassionate support, and whole-person care, FCNs can help reduce confusion and empower individuals to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
We don't have to have all the answers—but we can know where to find them. In everyday encounters, FCNs often hear about needs that go beyond what we can provide ourselves. Knowing our community resources, making thoughtful referrals, and following up can turn a simple conversation into a meaningful connection. Learn how referral can become an everyday part of your FCN practice.

There has been increasing interest in the topic of human flourishing, a state of happiness, well-being, meaning and purpose. This one-day workshop focuses on faith and human flourishing. Attendees will learn about skills and programming interventions to maximize human flourishing at home, at work, in social relationships and in other settings. Target audience This conference is for clergy, faith leaders, faith community nurses, health ministers, congregational care teams, chaplains and seminarians.
Taizé Prayer is a simple, meditative form of worship for all spiritual seekers who would like to dwell deeply in God’s presence around and within us. Songs, prayerful silence and short readings guide the focus of our prayer in a candle-lit environment.

The National Uniform Claim Committee (NUCC) has approved a nationally recognized definition of Community Health Nursing—an important milestone for Faith Community Nursing and community-based nursing practice.
The new definition recognizes registered nurses who provide health promotion, disease prevention, and whole-person care across diverse community settings. Because Faith Community Nursing is part of community health nursing, this national recognition helps strengthen the visibility, credibility, and professional recognition of FCNs and supports ongoing efforts toward legislative recognition and sustainable reimbursement for community-based nursing.
Approved unanimously on August 13, 2026, the definition will be published January 1, 2027, and available for use April 1, 2027.
This is an important step forward for the future of Faith Community Nursing.
